Amazing set of accessories November 12, 2008 DocRWM (Woodstock, GA United States) 113 out of 114 found this review helpful
We've owned 3 portable DVD players over the past few years. They tend to last a couple of years and for <$100, used routinely by children, moved about, rattled, run on Car and AC current, that seems acceptable to us. Sure beats having to take the entire car in for service because the DVD player that's built in is acting up ;->
This player is a no-name "Brand" - Coby. We got a Coby DVD player for free with a purchase a year ago and I gave it to my mother-in-law. She watches movies 3-4 nights a week with it and loves it. So, when I saw this tablet version from Coby that had all the features I wanted and was around $100, even though its a no-name brand, I bought it.
Wow, the description did not cover what comes with the player:
- remote w/ batteries
- 2 corded sets of headphones (the player has 2 headphone jacks!)
- AC power
- Car charger power cord
- headrest bag with attachments
- Cassette connector and cords for running audio through the cars audio
- A/V cords
It started right up, played without a hitch, has a nice picture, remote works like a charm, headphones both work and inserting them (in either outlet) cuts off the speakers (plus), easy controls on front, and the case is built to hold the player while revealing all the essential buttons-knobs-controls.
Only downside, so far, is that the cords are a wee but on the short side.
Can't be beat November 2, 2008 Marjorie J. Glasscock (Virginia) 34 out of 36 found this review helpful
Can't be beat...even though that's exactly what my special-needs son does to it. And it lasts for at least 6 months of daily abuse. Imagine how many years of service it would provide under normal conditions. The picture is gorgeous and there is more volume available with this version than with some earlier models. It's super easy to use and comes with more accessories than you can shake a stick at! Travels great. Can't imagine anyone not loving it.
not satisfied at all May 4, 2009 Andrea Blue (San Antonio, TX) 32 out of 36 found this review helpful
Okay. I read tons of reviews on all different portable players and this on got the best review out of all the ones i checked out.. I bought it on april 24 and recieved it on april 28th. my family and i used to on a family trip to corpus christi.. it worked great for about 6 hours total.. it was not dropped and mishandled in anyway whatsoever. as a matter of fact i am the only one that touched it. and the thing just stopped working. it wouldnt load a disc. when i turn it on it just clicks and doesnt do anything. i of course have the warranty on it, and am sending it back. the thing that sucks is that i have to pay the shipping for them to send it back to me. its only 6 dollars but still it is their product that messed up i should not be the one that has to pay the shipping for them to send a replacement back to me.
Really Good Deal February 5, 2009 M. Windle (Georgia) 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
This was just a really good deal for the money, honestly for any money as far as I can tell. I have had this since before Christmas 2008 and have not had one complaint. The accessories; 2 head phones, car jack, house jack, a TV jack, a holder for stapping to a head rest or even a visor in my truck and a remote control! I guess the only downside is the holder covers the speakers so sound is a little muffled for road use. The holder even holds it in a grocery cart for a peaceful shopping trip. OH and when you turn off the player with a movie in view it saves the place so when you hit the switch it comes right back on to the spot you left off! The only thing that would make this better is a carrying case for all the stuff! I would never pay to have one of those dvd player factory installed on my vehicle with these things around! Did I mention my 6 year old boy was operating this?
Stopped working after ONE MONTH.. HORRIBLE customer service! February 1, 2010 Mom To 5 Great Kids (Corpus Christi, TX United States) 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
This was great at first. As previous reviewers stated, the accessories were great, the picture was fine.. we loved it. For a month. Then it quit working.
I called Coby customer service and they said they would email me instructions on how to return the item. In this email they request a cashiers check for $15. PLUS I had to pay for the shipping back to them. SO, in order to get my DEFECTIVE product repaired I was going to have to pay in excess of $20 when I'd only paid $80 for the whole thing.
I called and complained about this policy but was basically told "too bad". I let them know that my first order of business was to come here and share my story and I was told "okay". SO here it is,, Buyer Beware. I'm not willing to spend $20 to ship back something that might conk out again as soon as we get it back. We are the proud owners of an $80 paper weight.
